Webinar Announces Economic Reconciliation Opportunity by Simply Changing Products and Distributor

EDMONTON, Alberta (June 22, 2024) – On June 13th, a webinar on economic reconciliation, the simplicity and importance of purchasing nitrile gloves from an Indigenous-owned distributor, attracted 32 participants. The event highlighted the partnership between Medical Surgical & Safety Supplies Ltd. (MSS) and PRIMED Medical Products (PRIMED), exemplifying their commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action #92.

MSS, the largest Indigenous-owned medical device and drug wholesaler in Canada, has teamed up with PRIMED to launch a co-branded glove and mask program. This initiative supports reconciliation projects within hospital networks and corporate Canada. MSS provides access to Indigenous businesses and communities, while PRIMED offers manufacturing and market expertise.

James Hiebert, President of MSS, remarked, “Together with PRIMED, we’re writing a new story about reconciliation in Canada.”

MSS is committed to sharing 51% of net proceeds with local Indigenous communities, including scholarships for Indigenous youth, safe and accessible local Indigenous healthcare centres, and sustainable business opportunities. Their AIVSCA Framework emphasizes environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and respect for Indigenous rights.

Niagara Health (NH) has pioneered economic reconciliation through a partnership with Mohawk Medbuy Corporation (MMC), MSS, and PRIMED, introducing the world’s first Indigenous-supplied nitrile medical gloves. This collaboration sets a model for integrating Indigenous businesses into mainstream supply chains.

David Welsh, PRIMED CEO and President, stated, “PRIMED is committed to growing the influence of Indigenous businesses across the healthcare supply chains of Canada.”

This initiative supports Indigenous economic development and plans to integrate social values into procurement processes, particularly for NH’s upcoming South Niagara Site. The MSS and PRIMED collaboration demonstrates how corporate partnerships can drive economic reconciliation and improve health outcomes for Indigenous Peoples.
