PRIMED Proudly Sponsors the University of Alberta’s Chancellor’s Cup
Edmonton, AB – [July 2, 2024] – On June 24, 2024, PRIMED participated in the University of Alberta’s Chancellor’s Cup, an event dedicated to supporting the transformative U School Program. This initiative plays a pivotal role in making post-secondary education more accessible to students from under-served, Indigenous, and rural communities.
The U School program provides students in grades 3 to 9 from high-needs or socially vulnerable schools in Edmonton, as well as schools in rural and Indigenous communities, with a week-long immersive experience at the University of Alberta campus. Since its inception, U School has welcomed over 9,000 students, introducing them to the vast opportunities available at the university and fostering a sense of belonging. This initiative has made a significant impact, with hundreds of U School alumni now studying at the University of Alberta.
“The Chancellor’s Cup is a cornerstone event supporting the U School program,” said David Welsh, CEO of PRIMED. “We are proud to support an initiative that aligns with our core values of collaboration, respect, and innovation. The opportunity to partake in this event allows us to invest in the future of young students and contribute to a more inclusive and accessible landscape.”
This year, PRIMED sponsored 15 students to attend U School, helping open doors to higher education for those who might otherwise not have the opportunity. These donations and sponsorships are critical to the program, as it operates at no cost to the participating schools. Representing PRIMED at this tournament were Jeremey Johnson-Silvers, Director, Apparel and Justin Julio, Product Manager. “Being part of an event that directly contributes to the educational journey of young students is incredibly rewarding,” says Johnson-Silvers. “The U School program has such a profound impact on the trajectory of their lives, showing them that they belong here and that their aspirations are within reach.”
PRIMED’s involvement in the Chancellor’s Cup reflects the company’s broader mission to create positive impacts in its communities. By supporting educational programs like U School, PRIMED strives to empower future generations, promote equity in education, and contribute to the development of a more inclusive society.
