Departmental Overview

PRIMED Medical Products Manufacturing Ltd.’s (“PRIMED Cambridge”) Production team is dedicated to the manufacturing of the highest quality medical devices that will deliver on our mission: to protect people from harmful substances and infectious disease. This includes responsibility over all aspects of the product from raw material to finished goods while adhering to safety protocols, manufacturing best practices, and PRIMED’s Quality Management System.


The following is a list of the high-level activities or deliverables with the goal to continuously improve production equipment efficiency and reduce waste to the manufacturing line through process efficiencies:

  • Responsible and accountable for learning existing machine and equipment setup and maintenance requirements
  • Understanding finished product requirements and potential improvements that can be made to meet goals
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement projects that foster the reduction of downtime and/or scrap
  • Monitor, assess, and improve machine processes, develop work instructions, and train employees.
  • Participate in determining corrective action / preventative action (CAPA) with deviations on the manufacturing line
  • Using industry best practices and methodologies, investigate issues affecting production systematically while determining any root causes
  • Assist the Maintenance Supervisor with organizing, planning, and commissioning new or modified production lines
  • Assist maintenance with planning installation, and testing of equipment using PRIMED’s internal processes and procedures new lines or machines, as required
  • Continuously seek and research new developments in the industry
  • Implement safety improvements and comply with regulatory requirements
  • Author documents required for the Quality Management System
  • Support Plant Manager with special projects and work flow improvements, as required.

Working Conditions

Attention is shifted from one job task to another frequently during the day. This is a hands-on role; therefore, time and priority management abilities in addition to excellent communication skills are essential. Other conditions and requirements of the role include:

  • Five years of progressive demonstrated abilities of manufacturing, process, and quality improvement with demonstrated experience and understanding of Lean Manufacturing
  • Diploma in Manufacturing Engineering Technology or equivalent
  • Knowledge of improvement methods like Lean, Six Sigma, etc.
  • Experience working in a high-volume manufacturing setting
  • Experience with CAD and manufacturing analytics like run rates, efficiency, and downtime
  • Positive attitude and willingness to develop new skill
  • Highly flexible, eager to learn, open minded.
  • Working knowledge of safety standards related to equipment
  • Able to provide support to maintenance, production and quality staff
  • Ability to work in a young company with growth and evolution on the horizon.

Hours of Work

The Manufacturing Process Engineer position is a regular, full-time, position on the day shift in Cambridge. At times, it may be necessary to come in during the afternoon or night shift for trials.

Position Function

  • The Manufacturing Process Engineer (MPE) is accountable for maintenance and production line support including the design, development, planning, and coordination of improvements to our high-volume mask manufacturing.
  • They are also responsible for the validation of improvements that are implemented and preparing any documentation required under PRIMED’s comprehensive Quality Management System all with a service mindset in a team environment.
  • You must be detail oriented and complete your work in a very fast-paced, demanding environment. PRIMED is committed to being respected as the quality leader in PPE, and this role ensures we deliver on that commitment on a daily basis.

Working Relationships

The MPE will report to the Plant Manager with initial training provided by experienced Mechanics from PRIMED’s Asian facilities. Interaction with the Chinese counterparts, Communication with fellow team members and production staff to ensure continuous and reliable production of the correct product at the correct specifications.

Working with Edmonton based Product Development team, the MPE will also lead the Cambridge team in manufacturing prototypes and trialing new processes or procedures. The MPE must participate in a culture of collaboration and agility.
